1/  Mercury
Planet Mercury  
    What is the planet Mercury?  

In our Solar System , there is a planet named Mercury. This is the first planet from the sun. The smallest planet in the solar system, and also the closest to the sun is Mercury. Mercury goes around the sun 1 time in 88 days. One day on Mercury equals 59 days on Earth. It has no moon. Mercury's surface looks like Earth's moon.

    How did Mercury get its name?

The Romans believed that Gods and Goddesses were in charge of everything on Earth. Mercury is the name of the messenger for their gods. The Roman Mercury had wings on his helmet and shoes. He can travel quickly around the world. The planet Mercury goes quickly around the sun. That is how it got its name.
     Temperature?
   The day side of the planet reaches temperatures of up to 800 degrees Fahrenheit (427 degrees Celsius). In contrast, the chilly night side can get as cold as minus 290 degrees Fahrenheit (minus 180 degrees Celsius). The planet has an average temperature of 332 degrees Fahrenheit (167 degrees Celsius).
2/ Venus

    What is the planet Venus?
   Venus is the second planet from the sun. It's Earth's closest neighbor in the solar system. The distance between Earth and Venus is about 162 million miles (261 million kilometers). Venus goes around the sun once for 224.65 Earth days. The average temperature on Venus is 864 degrees Fahrenheit (462 degrees Celsius). We can't see Venus's surface from Earth because it is covered by thick clouds.

       How did Venus get its name? 
   The Romans knew of seven bright objects in the sky: The sun, the Moon and another five brightest planets. They named the five brightest planets after their most important gods. Venus, the brightest planet in the night sky, was named after the Roman goddess of love and beauty.

 3/ Earth

      What is Earth?



Earth is the third planet from the sun. It's our home. Water covers about 71 percent of Earth's surface. The average temperature on Earth is about 61 degrees F (16 C). Earth is a planet that has a lot of water. Earth goes around the sun once every 365 days. Earth has one moon named Luna.

 4/  Mars

      What is Mars?


Mars is the fourth planet from the sun. Mars is a "Red Planet" because reddish iron oxide covers the surface. Mars has 2 moons, their names are Phobos and Deimos and also has the highest mountain named Olympus Mons. Surface temperatures may reach a high of about 20 °C.
      How did Mars and its two moons get their names?


The Romans were great soldiers and thought Mars, the god of war, was very important. Mars, the red planet, was named after this god of war. According to Roman myth, Mars rode on a chariot pulled by two horses named Phobos and Deimos. The two moons of Mars are named after these two mythical horses.

So la r Sy st em (P2)      5/ Jupiter           What is the planet Jupiter ?   The fifth planet and the biggest planet in our system is Jupiter. Jupiter is a gas giant planet. Everybody will think Jupiter has one ring when they see the picture of Jupiter. In fact, Jupiter has three rings and it's made of tiny dust particles. In the surface of Jupiter, there is a Great Red Spot. It's a giant spinning storm. Jupiter has a lot of wind, winds range about 190 mph to more than 400 mph. Jupiter has 69 moons, the biggest moon name Ganymede. The average temperature of Jupiter is -234 degrees Fahrenheit (-145 degrees Celsius)      6/ Saturn     What is the planet Saturn ?   The sixth planet in the solar system is Saturn. It has a beautiful ring. Saturn has 62 moons and the largest moon is Titan. Titan is the biggest moon in our solar system after Ganymede.
